Avantia Law Acquired by Carta

13 May 2026 – We’re thrilled to congratulate our portfolio company Avantia Law on its acquisition by Carta today, a major milestone for one of the earliest AI-native companies we backed.
When we met James and the Avantia team over five years ago, the idea of an “AI-native” law firm felt radically ahead of its time. They didn’t just build a tool; they built a new operating model for the most complex corners of the private markets. Today, that vision is reshaping the infrastructure behind private capital markets.
Avantia built a category-defining platform at the intersection of legal services, compliance, and AI-powered workflows, now trusted by 200+ global asset managers and supporting transactions tied to more than $15T in AUM.
With Carta launching Carta Law through this acquisition, we believe this marks a broader shift toward AI-native operational infrastructure across private markets. As highlighted in today’s coverage from Artificial Lawyer: “this is another signal that AI is no longer augmenting legacy workflows — it’s rebuilding them from the ground up.”
We’re proud to have backed Avantia from the early days. This is what we do best: identify category-defining technology companies at an early stage such as Deliveroo, Darktrace, Preply and Carta, particularly businesses leveraging AI to transform legacy industries. We’re excited to see what comes next.
